Fromagerie & environment

As a company located in the countryside – in the middle of nowhere, you might say – we try to take care of the environment and ecosystem around us as much as possible.

With this beautiful countryside all around us, we’re always conscious of the importance of being environmentally friendly.

Wastewater treatment

As a company that uses a lot of water for our cheese recipes and to keep the plant clean, we have a superb wastewater treatment system.

Thanks to this system, we can clean all the wastewater and return the water to the local watercourses.

CO2 compressors

In 2012, we installed two CO2 compressors to reduce our dependence on propane. These compressors produce cold water which is used to cool our aging rooms, our production area and cool whey to slow down fermentation inside the silo so it stays fresher for longer.

The hot water produced by these compressors is used to pasteurize the milk, then sent to a storage silo where it can be used in all our cleaning and other equipment.

Sustainable Packaging

In our store, we have also replaced plastic bags with paper bags at the checkout and we are gradually switching to compostable trays. The paper we use to wrap our semi-hard cheeses has been replaced by a more suitable paper that preserves the cheese's freshness and is recyclable.

We now have an industrial-sized recycling garbage can just for cardboard, which ensures that it is properly recycled and reduces the amount of waste going to landfill.

2026 Modernization - Vision

By 2026, we plan to replace the current system with newer, more efficient machines, reducing our dependence on propane by at least 90%.

  • “Beautiful cheese store”

Wow, who would believe that just next to the border, away from main roads there is a beautiful cheese store offering unique and delicious cheeses produced right there. Thanks to the American Yelpers who actually wrote reviews about it, as I discovered its existence using Yelp rather then using the colourful local tourist maps. I may have been ignorant that Fromagerie Fritz Kaiser exists, but this is not the case for the rest of the Quebec population.

The store although very spacious was crowded. People kept coming and buying kilograms of cheeses. Yet service was fast and efficient. The speciality of the fromagerie is raclette, but they also have varieties of other cheeses. Some of the cheeses are available on the counter for tasting. We were also offered to try the cheeses we were interested in, which we ended up buying of course. Prices are competitive. I’m certainly coming back as I did not buy every single cheese type and I definitely feel I have to try them all, including the St Ambroise beer washed one. For now the aged Douanier is the absolute winner!

  • “Great stop 5 minutes from the U.S. border!”

Love this place. They produce a number of excellent cheeses. It is a very nice shop with a cheese tasting room, baguettes and other breads available, and other cheese related foods. The friendly staff is bi-lingual which makes tasting and shopping easy. If you like great cheese go to Fromagerie Fritz Kaiser – just 5 minutes above Alburgh, Vermont.
